GYNECOMASTIA – BREAST REDUCTION FOR MEN
SIEVEKING PLASTIC SURGERY
Gynecomastia also called reduction mammoplasty, is the condition of enlarged or over-developed breasts that are disproportionate to a man’s body. For this procedure Dr. Nicholas Sieveking and Dr. Jeffrey Claiborne can reduce the breast size, flattening and enhancing chest contours.
Benefits of Gynecomastia Surgery
Gynecomastia can develop as a result of hormone changes in adolescence or later in life, weight loss, heredity, certain illnesses, or the use of prescription medications. The benefits of male breast reduction surgery are both physical and psychological. From the physical perspective, you are able to get rid of sagging and excess tissue which allows a more defined pectoralis major muscles hidden below to show through like they should. From a psychological perspective, Gynecomastia can make you feel more confident in your appearance allowing you to feel comfortable to take your shirt off in public without having to be self conscious.
The Gynecomastia Surgery Procedure
In cases where gynecomastia is primarily the result of excess fatty tissue, liposuction techniques alone may be used. Dr. Sieveking or Dr. Claiborne will make the excisions either where glandular breast tissue or excess skin must be removed; and around the nipple if the areola will be reduced, or the nipple repositioned to a more natural male contour. Incision patterns will vary on the patients specific needs.
Bandages are applied following this surgery and there will be some swelling in the treatment area for a few days after gynecomastia surgery; however, any discomfort can be managed with medication. Most patients are able to return to normal daily routines after about one week. Results should be immediately apparent, and even more noticeable as your new chest contour settles.
