It’s very common for women to experience a certain degree of sagging and inelastic skin in the breasts over time. Whether excess skin accumulation in the breasts is due to weight loss, recent pregnancy, gravity, or the natural process of aging, a breast lift can reverse these effects for a firmer, more youthful appearance. Our board-certified plastic surgeon, Dr. Nicholas Sieveking, can eliminate excess skin and tighten the remainder to provide you with a renewed, “perkier” look to the breasts.
Benefits of Breast Lift Surgery
A breast lift, medically referred to as “mastopexy,” gets rid of excess skin in the breasts, moves the breasts to a higher position, and pulls the remaining skin taut for much smoother and more youthful results. The procedure can go a long way in rejuvenating the appearance of the breasts and reducing patients’ self-consciousness with the way they look. Breast lift can also be combined with breast augmentation in some cases in order to add volume to the breasts as well as giving them a firmer appearance.
Dr. Sieveking will meet with you for an initial consultation to talk about your goals and determine if breast lift surgery is the best option for your needs.
Breast Lift Surgery Procedure
A breast lift is typically performed with an incision made around the areola (the dark-skinned area surrounding the nipple) going down to the underside of the breasts. Excess skin will be removed, the nipples re-positioned to a higher location, and the remaining skin is redraped for a tighter and smoother result. Dr. Sieveking will work to make any residual scarring as light as possible.
Some bruising and swelling can be expected after breast lift surgery; however, any discomfort can be controlled with medication. Most patients are able to get back to normal daily routines within about one week. Dr. Sieveking will advise you not to participate in any strenuous activity or heavy lifting for at least four weeks after breast lift surgery.
The results of breast lift surgery are often immediately noticeable. The results should continue to improve as the swelling from surgery fades.
