Dr. Claiborne is one of the few plastic surgeons in Tennessee with additional aesthetic surgery fellowship training endorsed by the American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery specializing in surgery of the face, breast and body. His rigorous training background with internationally renowned surgeons and impressive research resume are testimony to his commitment to combine cutting edge innovation with proven techniques.
Dr. Claiborne left his hometown of New Orleans to attend the University of Virginia for college. At Virginia, his success earned him selection into the prestigious Echols Scholar program as well as an academic scholarship. After he graduated in the top 1% of his class with an interdisciplinary major in biology, chemistry and ecology, he returned to New Orleans for medical school at LSU and was awarded two academic scholarships. He graduated medical school at the top of his class, earning him the Norma C. Ragland Academic Achievement Award as well as selection into the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society. During medical school, Dr. Claiborne conducted basic science and clinical research on breast reconstruction and skin disorders, and he presented his research as a medical student at the American College of Surgeons Louisiana annual meeting.
After medical school, Dr. Claiborne was selected into the prestigious plastic surgery residency program at Wake Forest in North Carolina, one the most respected training programs in the world. At Wake Forest, he trained with leaders in plastic surgery and medical innovation. As a resident, his dedication to improving plastic surgery techniques persisted, and he published and presented over 30 plastic surgery research projects. His innovative work was recognized by the North Carolina Society of Plastic Surgeons, who honored him with the Nicholas Georgiade Award for the best resident research project.
After completing six years of plastic surgery training, the internationally-recognized Wall Center for Plastic Surgery selected Dr. Claiborne from an elite pool of applicants from around the world for their aesthetic surgery fellowship. The Wall Center for Plastic Surgery Aesthetic Fellowship is highly competitive and is one of only a few cosmetic surgery fellowships in the world endorsed by the American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery. During the fellowship, Dr. Claiborne refined his surgical technique working within a busy practice performing over 1000 cases per year focusing on facial rejuvenation, breast surgery, body contouring, liposuction and rhinoplasty. At The Wall Center, Dr. Claiborne was able to embrace the techniques of S.A.F.E® Liposuction from the pioneer himself, Dr. Simeon Wall Jr. S.A.F.E® Lipo is arguably the most innovative advancement in body contouring in the last 30 years. Spending a year working with one of the world’s experts in body contouring has allowed Dr. Claiborne to offer the most effective and safest techniques to his patients. A perpetual learner and driven to improve, Dr. Claiborne has traveled throughout the US to visit other leaders in plastic surgery to refine his technique, including visits to Dallas, Houston, Charlotte, San Diego, Miami, Atlanta, San Francisco, New Orleans, Birmingham and Cleveland Clinic.
Dr. Claiborne’s passions include using his plastic surgery skills in underserved areas of the world as part of medical mission trips. He has traveled to Africa, Eastern Europe, and Central America to provide free medical care in developing countries. At home, he enjoys spending time outdoors with his wife, Morgan, and their Goldendoodle, Stella.
