Chin augmentation can be a very beneficial procedure if you have a recessed chin, or if you feel your chin is too prominent for your facial structure. The procedure can also be advantageous for patients who are undergoing a rhinoplasty (nose surgery) to provide an improved balance among facial features. Nashville, TN plastic surgeon, Dr. Nicholas Sieveking can perform chin augmentation to help you attain your goals and enhance your facial appearance.
Benefits of Chin Enhancement
Chin augmentation, also referred to as chin enhancement, can provide you with a more defined and contoured chin that improves the harmony and balance of your entire facial appearance. There are a number of ways this procedure can be performed, depending on your ultimate goals. Patients with a recessed chin may benefit from a chin implant to give the chin a more prominent contour. Those who feel that the chin is too pronounced may benefit from chin reduction and reshaping. Dr. Sieveking will meet with you for an initial consultation to determine your ultimate goals and create a chin enhancement treatment plan ideal for your needs.
The Chin Enhancement Procedure
For chin implant procedures, a silicone elastomer implant can be carefully placed in front of the chin bone to improve contour and projection of the chin. Incisions for this procedure are typically placed either inside the mouth or just under the chin, so residual scarring should be virtually undetectable to others.
For chin reduction surgery, Dr. Sieveking will gently reduce the amount of chin bone and reshape the chin for a less prominent result. Again, incisions for this procedure can often be made in very discreet places so any residual scarring should not be easily visible to others.
There will be some bruising and swelling after chin enhancement surgery; however, any discomfort can be alleviated with medication. Physical activities should be limited for at least one week after chin augmentation to make sure you are healing properly. Dr. Sieveking will talk with you about what you can expect during the recovery process at your initial consultation.
